Howardena Pindell Joins the WonderRoot Podcast

Hall and Pindell

In this far ranging conversation for the WonderRoot Podcast, Mixed Media Artist Howardena Pindell joined Floyd Hall to discuss some impactful moments over her life and 50-plus year career, including important moments from her youth in Philadelphia, confronting racism and sexism in the professional art world, working as a curator at the Museum of Modern Art, and why her video “Free, White, and 21” still resonates.

Pindell also goes deep into some of what fuels her work, including the emotion she felt as a student at Boston University and at Yale University, the physical labor she puts into creating her art, and what the word “tenacity” has meant to her over her life and career.

This conversation is presented in conjunction with the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art, where Howardena Pindell has a current exhibition on display, and was recorded in the Spelman College Faculty Cloisters. Very good interview, Floyd. I was not too familiar with Ms. Pindell’s journey so this was very insightful.
